Our Story: Building a School With Heart
At Tiny School, Big Hearts Academy, we believe children learn best when they feel safe, loved, understood, and truly known. Our microschool was created to provide a warm, nurturing environment where children receive the individualized attention, encouragement, patience, and support they deserve. Our goal is not only to help students grow academically, but also to help them build confidence, feel valued, develop meaningful relationships, and enjoy learning again.
Tiny School, Big Hearts Academy was founded by Mrs. Tapia, a certified teacher and administrator with 17 years of experience serving children and families in Arizona schools. Throughout her career, she has worked closely with students of all backgrounds and learning needs and has always been passionate about creating positive, supportive environments where children can succeed emotionally, socially, behaviorally, and academically. Families know Mrs. Tapia as someone who leads with compassion, patience, understanding, and a genuine love for children.
Education and service have always been deeply important to the Tapia family. Mr. Tapia is a certified Special Education teacher with more than 16 years of experience supporting children across elementary and junior high education settings, including serving as a junior high math teacher, as well as working within behavior support programs, developmental programs, self-contained classrooms, and elementary instruction. He is known for his calm, caring, and supportive nature and for building positive relationships with students who may need extra patience, encouragement, structure, or understanding.
Tiny School, Big Hearts Academy is intentionally home-based because we wanted to create a learning environment that feels comfortable, personal, safe, and welcoming for children. Rather than a large institutional setting where students can sometimes feel overlooked, our home-based microschool creates a calm, family-centered atmosphere where children feel cared for, supported, and emotionally secure. Smaller class sizes allow us to build stronger relationships with students, provide more individualized attention, and create meaningful connections with families.
While Mr. Tapia will not serve as a classroom instructor at this time, he continues supporting the school behind the
scenes through planning, student support, and school development. His experience and caring perspective help
strengthen the family-centered environment we are committed to creating for every child.
As parents and educators, Mr. and Mrs. Tapia understand how important it is for families to trust the people caring for and teaching their children each day. At Tiny School, Big Hearts Academy, every child is seen, heard, supported, encouraged, and cared for as an individual. Our hope is that families feel the difference the moment they walk through our doors — a place filled with kindness, patience, structure, encouragement, and heart.
